Christians, how do you interpret these verses or what are your thoughts on this?

If you read the previous verses, you can see that "this rock" is not Peter, but his confession that Jesus is the Christ, Son of God. Another important point is that Peter didn't come to this conclusion on his own, God had to regenerate his spirit and reveal that truth to him before he could believe.
