R&S: What is the appeal of everlasting life?

It seems as though the ultimate goal of Christianity (and probably several other religions that I am not familiar with) is everlasting life in paradise. I've never understood this goal; surely immortality, even in paradise, is a terrible fate? I've just never understood why one would WANT to live forever, and I'm curious to see an argument from the other point of view. Thanks in advance.
