Atheists, if Evolution is such a great theory, why aren't humans able to breath underwater yet?

Humans along with other animals evolved from a common ancestor that lived in the water. It proved to be more advantageous for our early ancestors to evolve on land instead of water (less competition for food, less predators, etc.). It was the easiest route for our species, so we took it.
